Ultra Sports Bet

We’re going to be talking about the Super Bowl a lot over the next two weeks. After all, it is the biggest sports betting event of the year, and sports betting is what we are all about. Let’s get started. I have to admit that I am not that excited about this match-up. Okay, I hate it. Here’s why:
1. Inevitability – In the dictionary under inevitable it says ‘Patriots win 2008 Super Bowl’. I like sports for the drama, and I see about as much drama in this as in an elementary school production of Cats.

The Patriots opened as 27 point favorites against the Jets. That’s ridiculous. It’s especially ridiculous that it’s hard to make a solid case for the underdog in the game with the biggest NFL spread in history. Hopefully it goes without saying by now, but I won’t be betting on this game.

New England (-5) at Indianapolis – Normally I wouldn’t touch this game. Having the defending Super Bowl champs, who are undefeated after seven weeks, as five point underdogs at home is way too bizarre to have anything to do with. Since this game is the only thing that anyone is talking about, though, I figure I had better wade right into it. Despite the odd line, I like New England. I have six reasons:

Marvin Harrison, if he plays, isn’t at full health. Manning hasn’t developed a relationship with another receiver that comes close to replacing that.

There should be a brief period of calm, but it is going to be very interesting to watch how the Yankees act this offseason. I expect it to be dramatic. Out with the A-Rod and in with the pitchers who can actually get an out would be a good place to start. Betting on this team is going to be a very different proposition next year.
