South Florida (-6.5) vs. Oregon (Monday, Dec. 31, 2:00 p.m. ET) – I wish we could have seen this game with Oregon at their best. They obviously aren’t, though. The quarterbacking is a mess, and the confidence is shot. I am going to make the unapologetically public pick and take South Florida. They closed strong after faltering, and they have their potent offense intact for this matchup. They will be motivated to finish their fine season strong. On the surface, I really like Oregon here. The Wildcats only have an average defense, and they look better than they really are thanks to their two game winning streak. On the surface, I really like Oregon here. The Wildcats only have an average defense, and they look better than they really are thanks to their two game winning streak. They have won two in a row by beating up on struggling teams – Washington and UCLA. In both cases they gave up more points than I would have liked. I think that the Ducks will use their offensive balance to score, and Arizona and their one-dimensional, pass-only offense will struggle to keep up. Oregon has everything to play for here – they want to stay in the number two spot for their shot at the national title, and they are avenging an embarrassing lost to Arizona last year. Oregon has a clear edge, and I am comfortable with this line.

One thing makes me very uneasy here. The line opened at 13, a large majority of bettors are on Oregon, yet the line is falling significantly and fairly quickly. That either means that the books aren’t afraid of Oregon action for some reason because they are confident in Arizona, or that the smart money is pouring in on Arizona. Either way, the size of the line drop given the situation is why I would normally pass this game. For fun, though, I’ll make a pick. Pick: Oregon.

UPDATE: What a disaster. Dennis Dixon went down early, Brady Leaf played like we have come to expect from the Leaf family, and yet another number two has gone down the drain. There clearly was a good reason to pass this game.

Post from: Ultra Sports Bet

Two more for Saturday

College Football

Selections

arizona_state

dennis_erickson

illinois

minnesota

oregon

Illinois (-12) at Minnesota – My wife’s favorite team is Minnesota – she loves the concept of a gopher as a mascot. I may be a bad husband because I love picking against Minnesota. That’s mostly not because of her, though. It’s because they haven’t won since week two, and have struggled to cover against good teams. Illinois is a pretty good team, they should be able to break it wide open on offense, and I don’t see how Minnesota keeps up. Pick: Illinois.

Arizona State (+7) at Oregon - Arizona State is a great story, and Dennis Erickson has proven without a doubt that he is a brilliant coach. I think that the fun ends here, though. Oregon is too explosive on offense, they can stop the run cold, and they are incredibly hungry. This would be a different story if it were in Tempe (though I would still like Oregon), but Autzen Stadium will be absolutely out of control, and Oregon will be lifted by that. Pick: Oregon.

UPDATE: I was just barely breaking even during the college season before this week. There’s no better way to remedy that than to go 4-0 today and 5-0 on the week. It’s took a bit of a miracle by Texas to pull it off, but I’m not proud so I’ll take it. The rest of the games weren’t even remotely close.

Post from: Ultra Sports Bet
