Georgia Tech (-4.5) vs. Fresno State (Monday, Dec. 31, 2:00 p.m. ET) – Time to take another underdog. Fresno State had their problems, but they played tough against the tough teams on their schedule. I was particularly impressed by the way they handled Kansas State. Georgia Tech is a more talented team, but they have too many troubles. Not only did their coach get fired, but new coach Paul Johnson brings in an entirely different kind of offense, so …read more

California (-4) vs. Air Force (Monday, Dec. 31, 12:30 p.m. ET) -  Let me say up front that I am making this bet because of emotion. Cal has been an embarrassing disaster, while Air Force is full of heart and effort. Cal is way more talented, but no team that can’t get up to beat Stanford is going to get my support. Air Force will be playing extremely tough, and they will want it more. Pick: Air Force.

Clemson (-2) vs. Auburn (Monday, Dec. 31, 7:30 p.m. ET) – Both teams closed well, but Auburn wasn’t happy. Their coaching staff has been shaken up, and I that obviously can’t be a good thing when it comes to game preparation. Clemson is riding high, they have extended Tommy Bowden, and they can be explosive. It’s a bit of a coin fip here, but I’ll take Clemson. Pick: Clemson.

Oklahoma State (-4.5) vs. Indiana (Monday, Dec. 31, 5:30 p.m. ET) – Another tough game between two teams that are not amongst the class of their leagues. Both have pretty solid offenses and pretty uninspiring defenses. In the end, I like Indiana for two reasons – I get to take points instead of giving them, and the Kellen Lewis factor works on my side. Indiana’s quarterback is shifty and explosive – just the kind of player who can shine …read more

Kentucky (-1) vs. Florida State (Monday, Dec. 31, 4:00 p.m. ET) – Tough game between two flawed teams. In the end I think Kentucky has the edge in a game that is essentially a pick ‘em. Three reasons – Kentucky can score more points than Florida State and I don’t think the Seminoles can keep up in a shootout; Kentucky will be more motivated because it is the end of the line for this offense thanks to the graduation …read more

South Florida (-6.5) vs. Oregon (Monday, Dec. 31, 2:00 p.m. ET) – I wish we could have seen this game with Oregon at their best. They obviously aren’t, though. The quarterbacking is a mess, and the confidence is shot. I am going to make the unapologetically public pick and take South Florida. They closed strong after faltering, and they have their potent offense intact for this matchup. They will be motivated to finish their fine season strong. Oregon will …read more

Colorado (+3.5) vs. Alabama (Sunday, Dec. 30, 8:00 p.m. ET) – Maybe it is because I hate Nick Saban, but I like Colorado here. Dan Hawkins has this team playing with heart and hunger. Alabama isn’t. Colorado can score a pile if they want to, and I am not sure that Alabama can keep up. This game means more for a rebuilding Colorado than it does for an arrogant and bloated Alabama team. Pick: Colorado.

Penn State (-5) vs. Texas A&M (Saturday, Dec. 29, 8:00 p.m. ET) – If you have followed my picks you will notice that I have not been picking the Big Ten. I watch a lot of their games, so there is a good reason for that – they suck. I would love to pick against the conference here, but I just can’t do it. Texas A&M is yet another team with a coaching mess. They will have practically a …read more

Central Florida (-3) vs. Mississippi State (Saturday, Dec. 29, 4:30 p.m) – It’s a big jump up in class for Central Florida from the top of Conference USA to the middle of the SEC, but I like their chances. Mississippi State has put up some big games, but they aren’t consistent and they only have an average run defense. Central Florida can run all day, and I look for them to control the game on the ground and turn …read more

Wake Forest (-3) vs. Connecticut (Saturday, Dec. 29, 1:00 p.m. ET) – This is the toughest game so far. If it weren’t for the last three weeks of the year I would like UConn for sure. They were pitiful against West Virginia and Cincinnati, though. In the end I think that I will go with Wake Forest because of that and other reasons – Wake Forest has more recent bowl experience, they are a more consistent offense, and they …read more
