Looking ahead to Sunday

Let me say this from the start - the Patriots are going to win the AFC Championship. They are then going to win the Super Bowl. I have very few doubts about that. That being said, I can’t help but jump on the Chargers right now. The spread is available in places at 14.5, and I want to take it now because I am unsure that it will continue to be available at better than two touchdowns for long. I think that betting that the Chargers can stay within two touchdowns of the future champs is the closest thing to value we will find in this game. The Chargers will find a way to keep it competitive, and the Pats haven’t shown a desire lately to crush their opponents - they are just about winning. I’ll post picks on Saturday, but as a preview, I am locking in on San Diego today.
The concern, of course, is the health of the Chargers. This is up in the air, but the only guy I am really concerned about in terms of potentially not playing is Philip Rivers, and Billy Volek isn’t a huge step back. This line reflects overcompensation for those injuries by the public in my mind.
I’ll make my bet on San Diego now, and if I get nervous between now and game time I can always reverse it by making a bet on New England.
