It’s Thursday night again – that means football

I’m thoroughly enjoying these Thursday night games with marquee teams this year. I hope that the Hokies are, too, because this is the second straight week that they have played in one. I picked against them last week when they played Boston College, but I’ll prove I am nothing if not fickle by backing them this week.
Virginia Tech (+3) at Georgia Tech – I was looking forward to this game for a while. The Hokies have a very good run defense, and Tashard Choice is among the best running backs in the country, so it was going to be very interesting to see which side blinked first. Now Choice is likely out with a knee injury, and that changes everything. Senior Rashaun Grant is another running back that is out for the Yellow Jackets. That leaves the responsibility on the ground on the shoulders of Jonathan Dwyer. He’s a talented freshman, but this is a tough spot to become the number one guy for the first time. Statistically, Georgia tech has a stout defense of their own, but they have given up more points than their numbers would lead you to believe. I’m not in love with the Hokies by any means, but they have much more to play for. They are still very much in the mix for the ACC Coastal, and I suspect that they will be looking to make a point after being embarrassed late by Boston College last week. Above all that, I like the idea of being able to pick the better, higher ranked team and take some points as well. Pick: Virginia Tech.
UPDATE: I wish that they were all this easy. 27-3 Virginia Tech, and the game wasn’t as close as the score indicates.
