Sunday, hopefully not so bloody Sunday
There are way too many huge lines in the NFL this week. Fully half of the games on the schedule have spreads of at least a touchdown. As a general rule I hate games like that because you can never be sure if a team is going to want to crush an inferior opponent, if they will just do enough to win, or if they don’t show up and struggle to win. Skipping those seven games, then, doesn’t leave me a whole lot to look at. There are just two games this weekend that I will be throwing my support behind:
Kansas City (+3) at Oakland – I’m not sure how they are doing it, but the Chiefs are playing very well over the last month. Oakland hasn’t been bad, either, but I don’t like their running game right now, and I think that Culpepper is on the decline. Kansas City has been surprisingly solid, and I like the comfort of the three point spread here. Pick: Kansas City.
Pittsburgh (-3.5) at Denver – Denver has two wins, but none in three weeks, and they haven’t shown up for a game yet. Pittsburgh, with the exception of an emotionally charged game against much of their old coaching staff in Arizona, has been ruthless. They dismantled the Seahawks last week, and I am not at all convinced that the Broncos are any better than Seattle is. Pick: Pittsburgh.
